I know it's scary and causes an extreme amount of stress that just makes things worse. What's awful, in my opinion, is that I KNOW you work very hard. You are not "lazy" or a "deadbeat" or expecting a handout as so many would have us believe about the uninsured. You are employed and hard working. But until now, private insurance on the open market was impossible to get when you have a chronic condition without being part of an employer plan. I hope you'll be able to get care through the ACA.Little Merry Sunshinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01260823112620938983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-508894650834872844.post-17594478403428667952013-10-16T22:39:53.086-04:002013-10-16T22:39:53.086-04:00I'm an asthmatic and don't have insurance,...I'm an asthmatic and don't have insurance, at the moment. You are inspiring me to take another look at my goal list and get back in the game.

As for ideas on additional experiences, I would suggest traveling or volunteering. Did you know there are elephant sanctuaries around the country to give retired circus and zoo elephants a peaceful life? Or you could travel to Thailand to volunteer at their elephant sanctuary. There are all kinds of organizations to clean the National Parks or major trails around the country. What about writing a book? Or you could try to publish your writing on other sites: guest post on other blogs or write for the Huffington Post.

Again, a wonderful post. I do not have a skinny neck and when the ENT had me feel my neck, I recall telling him that I knew one side of my neck felt a little different from the other side, but (1) I didn't know that's where my thyroid was located and (2) it never occurred to me that was I was feeling was anything unusual. I figured that just like no one has a perfectly symmetrical body (e.g., breast aren't exactly the same size, thighs aren't exactly the same size), one side of my neck was a little different from the other side. The mass is a solid. I know that because one of my fears was that during the biopsy, it was going to be similar to popping a pussy zit and liquid would spew everywhere inside my neck. For years after, I would binge on DC when things were super stressful at work, but like you said, I always felt better when I was just drinking water. Now, I maybe have a soda once every few months, if I have a bad headache that just won't quit, but I always choose a regular coke. Three or four sips in, I've had all I want and I end up dumping the rest out, which is OK by me. But, when I was struggling with cravings, I would opt for sparkling water, like Perrier. You get the benefits of water and the fun of bubbles! I didn't keep that up long, because it's an expensive habit (I bought it by the case at Costco for like three months last year), but maybe it'd help to try!Jennifer L. It's definitely not easy. As for me, Day 1 isn't going well. I desperately need to go grocery shopping, but am sick. I've been chugging water, but Diet Coke is tasting mighty fine at this moment. ...Damn. I closed the window before hitting send.

I grew up w/ a Mom, who as a hoarder was the grocery shopper, who believed that Kool-Aid had too much sugar in it and that apple juice was too expensive. (I'm allergic to dairy and oranges/OJ.) Her own poor eating habits and soda addiction dictated that she bought soda routinely and it was readily available. She didn't teach by example and "I'm thirsty" was never met w/ a reply to get a glass of water. Neither parent monitored my soda intake, so I developed a lifelong soda addiction.

Now? I try to drink more water a day than soda and tea and coffee, instead, but I can't eliminate soda completely. When I try, I get maybe a few months in, before I just need the feel of the carbonation in my mouth. Inevitably, when that happens, one drink, leads me to drink more soda and then, I'm back on the soda exclusivity bandwagon and I hate that. So, I try to limit my intake while allowing myself to indulge slightly.

It's an admirable goal, though... to go completely without it. I wish I could, but I don't think I ever will completely. bethanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02595136846431700185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-508894650834872844.post-37089593991747339412013-05-28T19:46:36.432-04:002013-05-28T19:46:36.432-04:00Love this -- the sender thing is my trick, too. I always meet wonderful people along the way, and feel no obligation to compromise what I want to do to the others wishes--although I have usually ended up going with the group, I wanted to. When I went to England and Scotland, I met some very nice people in a cafe when I first arrived in London--an English couple, and an American woman also on vacation. Then, I ended up touring with a group of women from Thailand and Singapore, and we had a blast. When I went to Italy on a Rick Steves Tour, I was the only single, and the couples took turns adopting me. This being a Rick Steves tour out of Washington State, my fellow travelers were all liberals excited to hear about my trip to the 2004 DNC. I didn't pay for a single dinner. I tried, but they insisted. When no one wanted to see Galileo's severed finger at the Science Museum in Florence, I simply went on my own, and of course, I met a couple on my tour there who decided to go see it, and then we went to look at Roman ruins together. When I first went up to Alaska for my cousin's wedding in Juneau, I felt on my own with all my relatives right there, but when I followed that up with a tour of the interior on my own, I met a couple from Albuquerque, and their son, and had a great time with them.Ellen Beth Gillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02437707135406101498noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-508894650834872844.post-63804940827978635712013-04-24T05:04:59.713-04:002013-04-24T05:04:59.713-04:00Wow!
