You have been waiting patiently on pins and needles for my endorsements. Hopefully, now that I have made them, the 7% undecided can get off their asses and go vote knowing that I have made great decisions for them. Please feel free to print out this voter guide and take it with you tomorrow.
For the Office of President of the United States - Barack Obama
I believe it's important for the smartest guy we can find to be President. Being President is a difficult job and requires understanding of many complex issues. It's not good enough that a candidate went to a good school. He or she needed to have graduated at the top. I want the smartest person around. I also believe that the person who remains calm during a crisis is a great leader. Our President should have an even temper and not have a reputation for blowing up at every little thing. The old adage about getting more bees with honey is true. A President needs to have good judgement from before Day 1. And finally, a President should inspire us to be better. In this race, only one candidate met all of this criteria. That candidate is Barack Obama and I support him wholeheartedly.
For the Office of Senator from the State of Illinois - Senator Dick Durbin
Senator Dick Durbin has been the senior Senator for the past 12 years. This will be his 3rd term. During those 12 years, Senator Durbin has risen to the #2 position in the Senate - Democratic Whip. In 2006, Senator Durbin was named one of the Top 10 Senators by Time Magazine. Senator Durbin is right for Illinois and right for the country.
For the Office of 10th Congressional Represenative - Dan Seals
Dan Seals is running for the second time against 4 term incumbent Rep. Mark Kirk in a district that has been gradually changing from Red to Blue. Dan is committed to listening to his constituents and doing what is best for the district rather than doing what is best for him personally. I have been impressed with Dan's ability to communicate with his district. After a recent coffee, I had the opportunity to speak with him personally about an issue that is very close to my heart. He asked me to email him and he would look into it further. Mark Kirk routinely says one thing and does another. Plus, Mark Kirk is against a woman's right to choose and voted against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, my top two issues. Dan Seals, on the other hand, is committed to a pro-choice agenda and equal pay for equal work. Finally, other than write the articles for George W. Bush (note I refuse to call him President), that took us into the illegal and immoral war in Iraq, I can think of no other accomplishments by Rep. Mark Kirk.
For the Office of Illinois State Senator from the 27th District - Peter Gutzmer
My current State Senator Matt Murphy is against a woman's right to choose and only contacts constituents during election time. It's time that our State Senator reflected the progressive values of the district.
Leaving the world a little better than I found it by sharing my passions and dreams, what inspires me, and maybe you too, and furthering the discussion about how we can listen to our better angels.

Yet ANOTHER Side Effect of 8 Years of GOP Rule
I received this email today from Dan Seals, the Democratic Candidate for the 10th Congressional Seat in Illinois against 4 term incumbent and George Bush YES Man Mark Kirk. If this doesn't terrify you, well, then I'm not sure what to say. But it should. It should terrify you that if someone at the post office doesn't like you or your business, then your outgoing mail (that has cost you significant money to send) could just get misplaced. Of course, this comes just a month after Dan Seals campaign office was broken into and a computer was stolen. Coincidence?
This is definitely not the kind of America I want to live in. The only way I know to stop these nasty tactics is to vote all the Republicans out of office. That will send a very clear message that won't get "lost" at the Post Office.
Onto the email . . .

Dear Little Merry Sunshine,
ALERT
Last week, thousands of Seals supporters should have received our campaign's final direct mailing. Unfortunately, those letters were tampered with and never left the post office. Authorities are now investigating the situation, but we have already missed a critical opportunity to raise funds and keep Dan on the air in the final days of our campaign.
THE SITUATION
The campaign's final direct mail piece, which included a quote from Senator Barack Obama supporting Dan, was set to hit the mail boxes of thousands of supporters last week. The mail was received by the United States Post Office and then transferred that same day to a United States Post Office Distribution Center.
After realizing that supporters had not received the letter, we discovered that the mail had been set aside and out of sight at the post office. The letters were supposed to have been treated as first class mail. They were not.
CONSEQUENCES
We lost the money that we would have raised over the past week if the mailing had been delivered on schedule. With the election just days away, we need to raise money to keep Dan on air, in the third most expensive media market in the country, so that he can continue to communicate his positive message of change to every 10th district voter.
THE SOLUTION:
Please contribute to our campaign today and help us raise $10,000 by Midnight tonight. We had counted on these contributions and with only 4 days to go we cannot take a single dollar for granted.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Team Seals
P.S. Help us raise the money we lost so Dan can reach every IL-10 voter before November 4.

Hell to Pay: Vote for Dan Seals NOW!

From the 10th Dems:
Hello Tenth Dems member,
Tonight, Dan Seals is a candidate in Daily Kos' "Hell to pay" election. This program would help stop the attacks from Mark Kirk with a flood of contributions for Dan Seals from all over the country. There are other good candidates in the running, but we need to do what we can to help that money go to our local campaign. We need to take action because of the Kirk attacks.
Please go to DailyKos.com and make a comment supporting Dan in the "Hell to pay" post if you have a Kos account. Look for a poll later tonight where you can vote for Dan even if you don't have an account. This could really help our campaign, so please go over to Daily Kos and help out.

Dan Seals Waukegan Campaign Office Burglarized
From Ellen of the Tenth yesterday:
Someone broke into the Seals campaign office in Waukegan last night/early this morning (Sunday night/Monday morning). (News-Sun Story)
They tried to break down the back door, then they hurled something through the front and they robbed us. Police are currently looking for suspects.
As Pat Mogge, Dan's Campaign Manager, says, "For those who have never been to the office, this is where we welcome voters, launch canvassing drives, host phone banks, and hold forums."
It is a vital part of our efforts to engage and support a community that has had more than its fair share of challenges.
Front Door: $750
Security System & Camera Installation: $650
Security System for Six Weeks: $150
Laptops Purchased at Best Buy: $600 per laptop
We can donate here to help rebuild the Waukegan office.
-----------
This is LMS talking . . . This is horrible. Truly horrible. I understand that in the whole scheme of things, like the economy, it's not so bad. But it is bad. Dan Seals is an upstanding citizen, working hard to make the world a better place than he found it. I'm voting for him and so should you, as I've expressed here. Who would do this? And why? I want to hope that it was just someone who saw a laptop through a window and thought it could be a way to make a quick buck. But maybe not.

My Congressman Speaks! Just Not To Me.
As I turned onto my street about an hour ago, I discovered both sides were lined with cars and Mark Kirk (R-IL) for Congress signs and flags in most lawns. My across the street neighbor was having a tea. Oh goody. Hopefully, my Dan Seals (D) for Congress sign would still be in my yard, but it's been known to disappear before.
Pulling closer to my house, I noticed him standing in my neighbor's driveway and I realized there was no place for me (the homeowning taxpayer) to park. Normally, this would not be a problem because I would simply park in my driveway. Unfortunately, my town is in the middle of replacing my street and they started on the curbs on my side of the street, just poured the concrete yesterday, and we have not been given the clearance to park in our own driveways yet. Given how much stuff I had to bring into my house (I had been meeting with some clients), I wasn't about to park a block away just because all the GOPers were having a party. I pulled right into my driveway figuring if someone says something to me, I'll blame my violation of the rules on my Congressman.
Settled into my driveway, one of my neighbors walked across the street to greet me. She said "Congressman Kirk is across the street to meet with all the neighbors. Everyone's invited . . . except you because you have a Dan Seals sign in your yard."
To be honest, I'm not sure I remember the last time someone spoke to me that way. It made my blood boil. It's not that I want to be invited to a GOP coffee because let's face it, if I was there, I would have to point out all of his lies, but no one needs to speak to me in such a condescending manner. You can be certain that I told her exactly why I'm not voting for Kirk and am voting for Dan Seals.
Since I am obviously not going to be given the opportunity to speak to my Congressman, here's what I would have told him.
1. You don't really care what your constituents think. I hate that you call at 6:30pm (or other random times) with a recorded message that says "We're having a town hall meeting via conference call NOW and if you'd like to participate press 1." I have, in fact, pressed one a few times only to discover that I am not allowed to ask questions. What's up with that? Other times, the calls come at completely bad times and I've just hung up. These calls completely irritate me. I'd like to participate. I'd like to hear what my Congressman has to say. I want to ask him questions. And if I knew about the calls IN ADVANCE, I would be able to plan an evening around them. I've called his office numerous times about this and never get an answer to my complaint.
2. I am troubled by your hypocrisy. Mark Kirk, although being a member of the Naval Reserve, did not go to Iraq when his unit was called up during this war. Instead, he served his time at the Pentagon. It must be nice to have that option. His reason was that he would put his unit at risk by being there. I hate to burst his obviously inflated ego, but I don't think anyone in Iraq cares about him. But it's a nice message to send to the folks back home: "I'm in the Reserves, but am too important to serve."
3. Judgement matters and you don't have it. Mark Kirk supported the War in Iraq. In fact, he authored the resolution to go to war and has voted 12 times against a withdrawal. He also took money from Halliburton and then voted to protect Halliburton's Iraq contracts.
4. Off-shore drilling isn't going to lower gas prices for at least 10 years, if at all. Mark Kirk loves off-shore drilling and takes money from oil companies.
5. You're too much of a "yes man." Mark Kirk has voted in line with President Bush's wishes 88% of the time.
6. Uninsured Americans cost us all more and aren't uninsured because they're lazy or don't want health insurance. He voted AGAINST SCHIP which would give healthcare coverage to impoverished kids.
7. No Child Left Behind isn't working. Ask any teacher. He supports President Bush's "No Child Left Behind," but refuses to fund it.
8. Gas costs too much. When Mark Kirk was running for office in 2000, gas was under $2 per gallon. At my neighborhood gas station, it's $3.95 today. Why is that? Why doesn't he do anything about this?
9. You're out of touch. He voted against extending unemployment insurance and refused to support any measures that would help homeowners facing foreclosure due to predatory lending because we live in a very high income district.
10. Why do you hate women? Finally, as a woman, I cannot ever support someone who opposed the Paycheck Fairness Act and Lilly Ledbetter Act which would have ensured pay equity for women. He was worried it would create lawsuits. How dare we want to enforce laws and get equal pay for equal work, when we're currently making $0.77 for every $1 a man earns.
When I see Mark Kirk, I see President Bush's lackey. He's a significant part of the problem in Washington these days. I want my Congressman to have a clue what goes on in our district. I want him to be someone who listens to members of the district, rather than telling us what he wants us to hear.
I'm voting for Dan Seals, who will work to end this debacle in Iraq, support my right to control my body and support a real energy policy that will include alternative forms of energy.
Oh, my yard sign is still there and I'm loving the fact that my car is parked squarely in my driveway with 4 Obama, Dan Seals, and anti-war stickers on it! But if my yard sign disappears, you bet I know who will get my first call of anger.
