Did you see Beyonce singing Etta James' "At Last" to the for the President & Mrs. Obama's dance at the Neighborhood Ball last night? I'm not even a fan of Beyonce and was moved to tears by her rendition of this amazing song. The emotion is all over her face at how honored she is to be singing for them.
Watching the Obamas felt almost too intimate, given what we've come to expect from these dances. What I saw was two people completely and unconditionally in love with each other. Two people with a deep and abiding love that honors each of them as individuals and as a couple.
And it filled me with hope.
Leaving the world a little better than I found it by sharing my passions and dreams, what inspires me, and maybe you too, and furthering the discussion about how we can listen to our better angels.
Too bad he's been so busy he didn't have time to learn the box step. I thought they should have stopped with "At Last" and just playing Stevie every time they danced. They looked less self-conscious. Oh well, it was sort of cute and if that's the only thing he can't pull off then we'll be just fine.
